Jokowi - Ma'ruf Amin To be Inaugurated in October

21 May 2019 20:59 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Incumbent presidential hopeful Joko “Jokowi” Widodo with his running mate Ma'ruf Amin officially declared victory for the presidential election on Tuesday. The pair conveyed that they accept the final vote count announced by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

He said that both himself and Ma’ruf will take the role as president and vice president once the inauguration takes place in October.

“We will be leaders and defenders for the entire 100 percent of Indonesians,” said Jokowi in the declaration that was held at Kampong Deret, Tanah Tinggi, Johor Baru, Central Jakarta.

The incumbent views that the public has made their choices clear in the election, which he considers has run smoothly and fair.

“We can withstand this peacefully and consistent to what our constitution mandates,” he said.

The former Jakarta governor also gave his appreciation toward every element of the election organizers such as the KPU and the Elections Supervisory Board (Bawaslu). He also thanked the general public, figures, security personnel that have worked tirelessly throughout the process.

“Let us all unite and elevate our beloved nation, for the sake of peace and the welfare of future generations, the generation of our grandchildren,” said Jokowi.

Early at dawn today, the KPU announced that it completed its vote count for the 2019 general elections and saw Jokowi – Ma’ruf Amin attain 85 million votes (55.50 percent) while his rival Prabowo Subianto – Sandiaga Uno collected 68 million votes (44.50 percent).
